Bible Study: The S.O.A.P. Method!

halden

My favorite way to study the bible is the S.O.A.P. method. It’s not just your traditional way of reading the Bible. When I use this method I feel like I actually learn, not just memorize! As a Christian the Bible is our handbook for LIFE. Learn it & most importantly LIVE IT!

S.O.A.P is an acronym for Scripture, Observation, Application, & Prayer. What I like about this method is how simple it is for everyone to do. No matter where you are on your walk with Christ, you can fully understand your purpose and reading, and learn with it.

To start your first S.O.A.P., you will need a journal, pens/pencils, and a Bible.

Scripture: What you read!

Observation: What you took from it!

Application: How you will apply it!

Prayer: Your personal talk with God!

Below is an example of one of my S.O.A.P.s. I did it on my favorite scripture, Philippians 4:6. I wrote this S.O.A.P last semester during the hardest semester thus far of my college career. I was so close to giving up. I placed my faith in God, and finished the semester amazingly raising my cumulative GPA to a 3.0.

Scripture -Philippians 4:6: Don’t worry about anything, instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

Observation– I believe this scripture is saying to remember to have faith in God. When tough times come remember not to worry about them but to PRAY. Give it to God and thank him for all of the blessings in your life.

Application– This semester has been very trying. As hard as I study, I seem not to advance. Right now I’m worrying a lot. I have to Remember that GOD IS FAITHFUL. Give all my worries to him and thank him for how far he’s brought me. Always remember to pray.

Prayer– God, I come to you thanking you for blessing me with the opportunity to be in school furthering my education. I ask that you lead me during this semester and it be a prospering one. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
